Garrigues. Leader in growth.
The law firm managed with a firm hand by Antonio Garrigues Walker, 'Don Antonio', as he is known in the company, has had sufficient muscle to turnover 334 million Euros (12.6% more than in the previous year) and to top the national ranking of turnover in the sector. Two big challenges are on the horizon: expansion in the Asia-Pacific area, a personal obsession of 'Don Antonio', and the establishment and consolidation of a legal think tank in Latin America.

Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira. A fiscal appeal.
One of the big national law firms, with a prestigious procedural and fiscal law department. Last year it reported a turnover of 240 million Euros, exceeded only by Garrigues. It has around 100 partners.

Uría Menéndez. On the podium.
The IFLR1000 legal directory describes this law firm as the national leader. Based on turnover, 174 million Euros in 2008, we rank it third. Specialists in international taxation.

4.- Landwell-PwC. International commitment.
Its strategy is established by Santiago Barrenechea, a legal legend who since May has been trying to give more international weight to the law firm. The firm stands out for its fiscal area and a turnover of 115 million Euros in 2008.

5.- Clifford Chance. Without competition.
A leading name in competition law and strong rival of the law firm, Freshfields. The torchbearer of legal services outsourcing to reduce costs. It reported a turnover of 74 million Euros in 2008.

6.- KPMG Abogados. A distinguished law firm in court.
Theirs are solid numbers: 423 professionals, 29 partners and a turnover of 67 million Euros in 2008. Among their ranks, names like Ramón Mullerat and José María Vallejo, stand out.

7.- Gómez-Acebo & Pombo. Weighty surnames.
Two distinguished surnames in the Spanish legal arena. With an office in Portugal since January, they managed to increase the turnover by 12% in one year and ended the previous financial year with 61 million Euros.

8.- Barrilero. Labour-law specialist.
Familiar to just a few since it only has offices in Spain, its area of labour and administrative law is very strong. The firm reported a turnover of 59 million Euros in 2008 with the support of 161 lawyers.

9.- Baker & McKenzie. Multinational by right.
Commerce, fiscal and labour law are the pillars of one of the world’s law firm giants. In Spain it reported a turnover of 58 million Euros in 2008. Challenges? To be among the country’s top five law firms.

10.- Ernest & Young Abogados. One of the big four.
It is one of the big four (alongside Price, KPMG and Deloitte). The company is in the process of expanding its audit area. Its legal area reported a turnover of 57 million Euros (in the previous financial year).
